In my experience (and have experienced twice), if you miss a service, you get charged the £100 penalty, but don't get charged the cost of the service.

Given the service is in the order of £300+, and the penalty is only £100, one has to decide on their morals if choose to take the lower cost option!!! Terms and conditions are terms and conditions.....if that's what they state, that's what they state and it's a contractual agreement so you've done nothing wrong in theory by taking the lower cost penalty option.

PS check your own T&C's. They may be different......

Thanks for your reply Soupytwister. That was my understanding of the contract but Santander not very helpful when queried. It’s good to hear actual experience.

Sent back an xc90 in Feb with about a week to go before the anniversary of the last service. I’d stretched yr1 and yr2 service by a few weeks each so the car was already 37 months old at the point of return (had an informal extension as the new car was delayed)

Dash was flashing service light (not saying overdue), paper work clearly stated the date of the last service.

No issue at all and not questioned, or any charges made. It wasn’t Santander, but these companies all use the same pool of collection firms.

I’ve sent 4 lease cars back and never paid for the final service or been charged, you can always return a few days early, what you lose on not having a car you’ve paid for is compensated by no service fee.

As another poster said, I have had MOTs done - I get these done a bit early so can use manufactures warranty for any issues

i've just been working this out myself. 1st service was done 4 weeks late due to local dealer being s**t. second service due end of august.
hand back mid july = 1 month of lease payment of £230, but saves me £505 on volvo's second service!

Other option is to take 3 month extension to Nov to make the 2nd service worth while. Stick it into Kwik-fit - specify volvo filters. £211. bish bash bosh. Amazingly the lease company is happy with a Kwik-fit service. I'd never do it for my own car, but Volvo's £505 is just taking the proverbial.
