Amazon fuel consumption

Good morning all,

Just wondered what sort of ball park fuel consumption figure I should be getting from my Amazon, its a 1970 121 B20b that has been converted to twin carbs (SU's) and its had some engine tuning work carried out in the past, it has a non-standard cam but I'm not sure of its spec and I have a dyno print out recording it having a max bhp of 142 at the flywheel so with that in mind I'm aware it will use more fuel than stock but was hoping that someone might have a car in a similar state of tune and be able to feedback some figures?

It all depends on how heavy your right foot is.

25-30 mpg in my experience.

Arcturus that is very true, and amazon69 is that an average combined, bit of all sorts driving?
I recently did an almost 200 mile trip in mine which was a mix of conditions some motorway and town driving and returned 24mpg and for half of the journey I had lost overdrive due to a blown fuse so maybe I'm not too far off!

I have a similar set up and average 28/30 mpg.That's with wearing sandals

That's all sorts of driving. I'm not gentle either generally. 4000rpm vs 5000 rpm on a run does make a huge difference mpg wise on mine, so if your overdrive was not working then that will impact heavily. I can easily get 30+ mpg on a run if I'm not hooning it.

Thanks guys obviously I didn't buy the car with the primary function being it had to be fuel frugal, its a fun sunny day/weekend car, I have had to do a bit of recommissioning work on the carbs and it runs really nice now so I'm keen not to fiddle too much more just wanted some reassurance I'm not a million miles away.
When I collected the car back in December it got a good run on my way home and I was pleasantly surprised at its consumption however it was virtually all motorway driving with a working overdrive!
I'm planning on attending the Southwold gathering in May so I'll do some checks on that run, but I'm probably guilty of wearing the aforementioned lead soled footwear!

If you're not using the highest octane petrol, V-Power for example, try a couple of tankful's. To me, my engine runs/feels much better and you may even get an extra 1-2mpg. A little more expensive but worth it IMO. They were originally spec'd for 100 octane.
