Default V40 2002 diesel battery charging issue.

Hi all, I was wondering on the connection that fits into the top of the alternator how many wires should be going into it? Changed my oil filter a few months back and not long after my battery died, got another battery and that doesnt seem to be holding charge. Go out in it daily so it should be getting charged. Just wondering if I knocked a wired out of this connector on the alternator so the circuit isnt complete leading to slow drainage of battery. Tried to find pics online of the alternator I have had no joy.

Just looked at my 2002 S40 and from what I could see, there were two plugs (one top and one bottom) with the top plug containing two wires, one green and one white. Bottom of the alt was another identical plug but it's a pain to see without getting underneath, so not sure what colour the wires are but guessing there's also two. In the middle is a big cable that's bolted on, presumably an earth wire. All of them meet about 6 inches back and are carried up the same trunking.

Hope this helps!

Mysteriously I've just discovered mine actually has the green wire at the top plug broken, right next to the plug. Not had any issues and got no lights on though so... not sure on that one. I'd also now be interested to find out what wire is doing what...

I am presuming I am looking at the alternator, up and left a bit from the oil filter on mine. Thanks for the reply and checking yours out also. Better just add mine is the 1.9 diesel engine.

I believe the 1.9 (Renault engine) was the only diesel engine they did for the x40 at the time! And yeah that'll be your alt you're looking at
