Volvoguard 2 Fob has packed up
Hi to All
My third and last fob supplied with the car is now defunct, like the previous two the lock/unlock plastic button bit at the top has simply worn out. I have had to press very hard for a long time. I remember reading, not sure if it is correct, that each fob is unique to the car or you have to get another secondhand one reset to your car by the main dealer? Can you still buy them new? I can lock/unlock the car's central locking on the key but until I get another fob is there no way to set the alarm and immobiliser? Edit to say new batteries make no difference, the button is not making a connection I think

Does anyone know if the 940 one is 418MHz frequency or 434MHz please, this helps if buying a secondhand one on Ebay.

Cleaning
I have an aftermarket VDO central locking system. Although it is supposed to be sealed I sometimes have to open the FOB and clean it out. Appearently it gets quite dirty in your pocket.
My 98 940 also has an immobilizer, but this system has some passive electronic device in the key itself. No need to push any button, it is activated by induction (I guess) from an antenna ring around the ignition key barrel. |

I had a 1998 V90 and bought a replacement fob from Volvo for around £30 (around 2006) and programmed it myself, it was a quick process of turning ignition on and off and pressing the fob buttons, it was in the owners manual. No special tools or equipment required.

If it’s any help I may have about the last remaining 940 fob that still has its original part number and sticker attached. It works with a 1998 Celebration estate. See attached photo.

Thanks for that, it may come in very handy! I understand the two different frequencies are for the 940 and 850

Forrest, instantly found them for sale at Scandix from your part number, £81 each, maybe cheaper than the main stealers:

Using this part number the 434Mhz frequency seems to tie up
