I bought a Bosch pump on Ebay as well. All good and straight fit, as far as I remember.

Default Fuel pumps

Apperantly Volvo did prodcut improvements until the very last of the 900 series.

Besides the low pressure pump for dual pump set-up and the high pressure pump for single pump set-up, there is another difference.

The 98 series of 940s have a turbine pump instead of a gear pump. This turbine pump is smaller / lighter and supplies a more constant flow of fuel. As spare part the new pump replaces the gear pump, but a modification set is required (info from VADIS).

From personal experience I can tell the turbine pump lasts longer than the gear type. Mine managed 400K miles, whereas the gear type ones typically fail at half the mileage.
I replaced mine with a Bosch pump. It was a bit smaller and no longer secured itself in the bracket, so I used a hose clamp for fixation.
