Using sealant with valve cover gasket?

Hello all!

....changing swirl flaps job... XC90 D5 Euro 4 185PS

Then new oem gasket; should I use some gasket sealant for keepin it tight at the corners?

And torque values should be 10 Nm?

Personally I wouldn’t use any at all. If you do use it, use minimal amounts of it.

Please not back if the change has improved anything, my arms seem loose and weeps a little oil. Mpg is shocking

I did this job 2 years ago with new Volvo gasket, swirl flap assembly, linkage, seal and injector copper washers / clamps etc.
No oil leaks since. I made sure the mating surfaces were all clean.

My MPG has been poor for years.. but...
I know the swirl flap linkage was not staying on, and I put off the job for ages - was also leaking oil where the linkage goes in.
When I changed it all the MPG started to climb, but then fell again, currently averaging about 27. Read the codes recently, another swirl error. On looking at the live data it's reporting 600% when the swirl actuator is at one end of it's travel. Seems to then give up, so probably responsible for poor MPG.
I'll replace the actuator this weekend and see if the MPG starts to improve again.

If surfaces are clean and not distorted/damaged, you should not need it.
If you are worried or know the mating faces may be imprefect to the tiniest degree, a small smear wont do any harm. Make sure you use a sparing amount of proper gasket sealer appropriate for the gasket (along the lines of blue hylomar) not silicone, not sh1tloads.
And as ever, dont overtighten!
