Rebuilt to 'as new condition'. Should have a very hefty guarantee period. Wonder how good the gearbox top is where the gear lever fits. Considering cost of a rebuilt overdrive unit alone it's not an astronomical price but it would be a brave decision to take.

Pretty reasonable price if its rebuilt correctly and lasts as long as the originals lasts.
It says 1800 so im presuming the remote linkage from the 1800 replaces the top case like for like?
Nice to know something like this has been considered viable to reproduce and can only be good for our cars.

How much is the cost of a rebuilt overdrive unit nowadays?

In the US, we sell completely rebuilt M41 transmissions with the J-type overdrive for $1500--or about 1160 pounds. The units are rebuilt by one of the most experienced experts in the states. We guarantee the units to operate perfectly upon installation, and we cover a 1-year parts and labor warranty. In short, the price being charged by the guy on ebay is obscenely high.

There are several companies in the US that charge about the same price. I suggest that you look at one of us before spending the kind of money being requested.

I had a word with OD Spares (Rugby) at Beaulieu and the current overhaul cost for a D type is about £325. That is likely + VAT and may not include the solenoid. They also have an arrangement with http://www.klassiktrans.co.uk/ Wolverhampton (07801 882771 ask for Ken and quote Dave at O/D Spares) for gearbox overhauls and these can be done at the same time but you need to deal with them Separately. Cost about £650, again assumed +VAT.
So, about half the Nordicar cost.

Go anywhere but the States, it is expensive, even taking into account the exchange rate. The quality of repair is excellent in the UK, so there is no reason to go elsewhere.

I don't see much of a price difference between the UK and the US. Derek says that the total cost for a complete rebuild of a D-type M41 is about 1,000 pounds. Add to that the cost of a core (typically about 300 dollars/222 pounds), and the total cost in the UK is about 1200 pounds. A completely rebuilt J-type M41 runs 1500 dollars in the US--or about 1100 pounds. Thus, if anything, rebuilt M41's with J-type overdrives are slightly cheaper in the US.
