Default Xc70 2.4D Drive

Just doing some surfing on Volvo estate cars.

It seems the xc70 2.4D drive achieves much higher MPG than other 2.4 diesels.

What's the reason for the increased MPG? Stop start?, Reduced torque/bhp/performance??

Thanks

I think an xc70 designated as DRIVe means it is front wheel drive only.
I thought the fwd versions only came in 2.0Ltr versions though. Older 5 cyl xc70 had DRIVe designation while newer VEA 4-cyl xc70 is just known as D4 (as opposed to D4 AWD).

So it's an 2.4d xc70 with 2wd? Isn't that just a v70? I have a 2.4d v70 and get nothing close to those mpg figures.

There must be something else??

It's a v70 on steroids.
I have one and it's a lovely car. The P3 engine is a 5 pot single turbo 2.4 producing 175 bhp. I polestared mine and it now produces 195 bhp but that is only half the story, the increase in torque especially in the mid range makes it a great drive and supream tow car.

Mine is manual transmission and on the A roads around me I get 40/42 mpg, towing high twenties low thirties and solo on motorway with light load at legal speeds 57 mpg, loaded high 40s low 50s.
I have no stop start and rarely use cruse.
I wanted a higher car as getting out of the v70 was becoming undignified and having a landrover on the drive could not warrant a second AWD/4x4.

The stated mpg figures are pie in the sky compared to on the road figures but designed to give an equal comparison between vehicles as all are tested in the same way unless your VW or Merc.

Paul.

According to Parkers (see comparison below of a 2.4d 2WD DRIVe and equivalent D5 AWD), it's most likely due to reduced BHP and reduced weight of 2WD transmission:

I don't think start/stop appeared that early on.
