New wiper blades from Dealer, £35. “Would you like us to fit them?”, done for free. They’ve never charged me for fitting wiper blades and I’ve had them changed yearly on the last couple of Volvos.

"Volvo is not unknown for being a genuine automotive industry innovator. Renowned for its orthopaedic seating, daytime running lamps and three-point safety belts, its latest windscreen wiper development needs to be included in its long list of broader, safety-enhancing benefits. Known as AquaBlades, which are produced by French automotive specialist, Valeo, in conjunction with Volvo, they feature water jets running the full-length of the blade, spraying water directly on to the windscreen. They incorporate an electronic sensor and heating element to ensure that they remain usable in any season. While Volvo is the first customer, they will become available increasingly from other brands. The primary safety is fantastic."

These sound a bit more than £40 jobs?

Would have been better if the technology you describe had been incorporated into the wiper arms as a fixed component, rather than as a consumable item which needs periodic replacement and which must as a consequence be expensive for the owner to replace.

I have a XC90 inscription with heated water jets and have just been out and checked them.
The wiper blades are not heated and do not have washer jets in them, the jets are on the arms and its the water thats heated to prevent freezing, the wiper blades are the same as any other easy glide wiper blade. And can easily be changed by the owner.

Fair enough. I was assuming you had to replace the whole unit - but clearly if just the rubber needs replacing - down to Halfords and they will fit them free, although not a difficult diy job.

Its as easy as this. And less than £20 a pair for Bosch replacements on ebay.
There's a video in the link further down the linked page.

I have just taken my blades off and refitted them and it only took seconds.

You don't change all those gubbins, which are part of the wiper arm. Just the blade. Literally a two minute job.

Edit
beaten to it and I think we all agree on this.

Dealers uplifting invoices is a perennial main dealer issue. VAG group dealers are universally bad for this and will recommend changing wiper blades and pads and discs about three times more often than needed at about three times the cost it should be, each time.

The UK site provides a "servicing price indicator", I was playing with this and noticed they charge £140 for wiper blades? Is this for real - maybe genuine blades are made of gold? Anybody got experience with this?

Those wipers were the reason I decided to take out a maintenance contract on my XC60 PCH. I've had a replacement tyre already after only one payment so I'm 'in credit' at the moment

I would think the wiper arms are warranty jobs?
