Replacement for a XC90
Good evening all: I'm currently running a '54 plate [2005] D5 manual XC90. I have owned it for over 3 years, and now contemplating replacing it with a 2006/07 manual XC70.
Are there any specific issues with the XC70 that I should be aware of please? Regards John |

If you are looking at 06/07 models then they will be the last of the P2 shape I assume?
Mechanically almost identical to the XC90, some think a better built interior. If your XC90 is the earlier 163 BHP car then you will be moving to the 185 engine and 6 speed gearbox. Budget for a gearbox oil change if its not been done...

XC90 replacement
Tannaton, good morning.
Thank you for your response. After the issues I have had with the XC90 I was expecting a list! The attraction of the 2006/07 is it has a 'proper handbrake', the next generation went to electric, which I believe can be problematical [not just Volvos?]. I spent time, money and effort on sorting the parking brake on the 90, and my wife still refuses to drive the car, as she is not happy with it! Also had issues with the angle gearbox, done under a warranty fortunately, and the Haldex system which my local Volvo specialist sorted. Reading through the XC70 items on the forum, on the whole it does seem more reliable! I'm down in the Southwest and there are a couple advertised on Autotrader, the nearest has a full service history, and looks to be in excellent condition, I am slightly concerned with mileages though, all those advertised are all well over 100k? Regards John |

Im running a 52 plated 2.5l petrol XC70 with mileage just under 173k, which some may say is barely run in!
A Volvo with over 100k on the clock, with full service history, should and no doubt will go on for many years to come. Please do not be put off by mileage but more importantly look at how its been treated. |

Hi boggy marsh. Thanks for your response, I'm hoping to look at one over this coming weekend, allegedly with a full service history.

Are you going for a petrol or diesel xc70?

Hi. Not seen any petrol versions for sale, so probably diesel would be the better option on the mileages of the vehicles currently up for sale?
By the time the powers that be make up their mind on what they are going to do about 'dirty diesels' I will probably be past driving! Regards John |
