Angry Front window controls not working properly

Just noticed that both front window switches on our 59 plate XC60 aren't working correctly. They are the double touch type - first touch moves the window but the window stops moving if you release it, second touch the window will make its full traverse even with your finger off. What happens is:
  • Using driver's door switch plate, both front windows move on first touch but on second touch they stop if you take you finger off. i.e. the "hold on" function is not working
  • Using driver's door switch plate, both rear windows operate correctly, both 1st and 2nd touches
  • Using front passenger door switch, the passenger door window mis-operates the same as using the driver's switches

The back lighting on the driver's door window-switch panel has also been out for several years, the window switch problem is new. (The backlight on the driver's door door-lock switch is working ok).

We queried the switch backlight problem with local Volvo dealer when it first appeared and were told it's the driver's door module, and replacement was hundreds of pounds.

Obviously not a huge problem, but darned annoying though. Does anyone have any ideas on this problem? It's obviously somethign common to both fronts, and independent of the switches. All fuses are fine. No OBD codes. Also where is the Driver's Door Module and can it be replaced by a non-Volvo garage (i.e. no programming required)?

Thanks in advance

Couldn't find a delete post button:

How to fix: Thoroughly investigate the problem. Swear at car. Write post carefully describing problem clearly. Go back out to car to re-check no codes. Window switches now working! (backlights still out). If only everything was that easy.
