Hi Robert,

For us who do not frequent tracks, can you explain the brake-challenge? Do you have to hit a certain speed on the straight section, then assuming you do that, is the result strictly on your overall time, or??

Gladly.. The Speed Brake Challenge is a Timed Event, and really doesn't have anything to do with hitting a certain speed and shutting that mandatory speed down in this format. At the start cone, there is a timer switch, and then you accelerate as hard as you can before the first turn and out of that turn there is a 3 cone slalom that leads to the final timing switch just before the stop box.

Now if you don't actually stop inside the 20x40ft box, your run is disqualified, and get No Recorded time. There is also a 2 second penalty per cone knocked over on the course, and a 2 second penalty on a average 12 second run will put you out of the running for sure.. I hope that makes sense, and I am not sure if you notice the slalom immediately out of the turn, but it is a blast to compete in this..

Hi Robert,

Thanks. Yes, I could see there was something going-on after the hair-pin turn. So who does the best times, smaller cars?

(BTW, I put in a good word for you posting some of the pics from here on the "Pictures of Amazons on the Road" thread : -)

James.. The times are so close between the big cars and smaller cars, so it is really about the driver and brakes more than anything.. The Orange 70 Camaro in the video won the challenge outright, but it was basically a fully setup track car with some basic conveniences, and was running like 335 front tires.. LOL I was running low 12 seconds, and I think the best times with the pro drivers were doing mid 11's. I was hanging with the 2013 Nissan GTR within .2 seconds plus or minus him beating me or me beating him, and I really think my car would have done alot better if I had more than that days experience, because you gain most of your time savings on setting and performing the turn and slalom properly. That car/driver has done these events on a regular basis and had attended the finals last year, so I was surprised I hung with him that well, but I think I can honestly say that is because Volvo X was able to make up for my deficiencies with being easy to manage during my mistakes..

Keep in mind with all of this, this was this cars and my first time ever competing in anything like this, so with just a bit more seat time and experience, the car and I should perform much better.. I have a coil over company using their tested setup formulas to get the performance spring rates and settingings for Las Vegas so it will be a totally different deal there, because during this event Volvo X was there on Daily Driver settings and alignment for comfort and to find out baseline capability.

I didn't really understand the comment in the Amazon's on the Road thread, because I thought it was just the nature of the thread to post of where your car was?

Thanks Robert. It seems to me it would be a better test of the brakes to just accelerate to 100mph then.....

(I'll leave you to check out the other thread for yourself)

Hi Robert,

I friend of mine is waiting a suspension kit for his P1800 that was paid for some time ago. Michael Shadbolt of Antibes, France

The car is due to come over to me for some work. If the parts have not already been sent could you send the kit directly to me as the car will make it over to me before the parts arrive by the looks of it.

Any news on the progress of his order is welcome.

Thanks for the message. I will post up some photos as soon as the parts arrive and also show them fitted once that is all done.
