Default Boot electrical problems

Hi all, hope someone can help with my problem.

I fitted the boot module to my 2012 XC70 about 18 months ago and no problems for about 16 months then I had to take it out because it melted and was affecting the central locking system.now I’m having no end of problems, the boot wouldn’t open from the boot, the fob or the button in the car. I took it to a Volvo specialist near me and they took the boot apart but couldn’t find the problem but now I’ve gone from a boot that won’t open to a boot that won’t shut! I’ve got the boot panels off and the boot button, fob and car button all seem to work but now the boot close button isn’t working and the lock mechanism seems to be stuck in the boot locked position.

So I’m £100 down, have a car I can’t drive because the boot isn’t shut and still have no idea as to what the problem is. It’s booked into an auto-electrician next Thursday (earliest he can fit in)

Anybody else had this problem or know if a cure?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Have you contacted Evgeny who supplied the module to ask him if he can assist with a diagnosis based on the fact that it was his module that failed originally. This is a little worrying for me as I have that hard wired module installed in my XC70.

I think Evgeny got the modules from a friend who originally did the design so contacting him may be of no use. Your best bet would be the auto electrician who can check the wiring going to the boot lock.

I have it booked into an auto electrician next Thursday to have a look. I’d be very careful of the modules, the one I took out had melted inside the protective foam and was very hot even when I’d spent 10 minutes dismantling the boot to get to it.

Thought I’d bump this one more time, I’ve had the lock replaced in the boot but it hasn’t solved the problem. It’s going to another Volvo place on Tuesday, hopefully someone will find out what’s going on.

Just had something similar with my 2011 v70, issues with boot lock only open on key fob and button on dash. The boot lid then wouldn’t catch in the closed position and would reopen automatically.
They found that some of the pins in the wiring loom connector had corroded (water damage / leak) so the wiring loom needed to be partially replaced but it had shorted out the lock motor in the process so that also needed replacing.

So, thought I’d carry on here rather than starting another thread...

Been a bit busy so didn’t manage to update. The boot is now working, had to have a software re-flash in the end to make the new boot lock work. But still having problems elsewhere.

I have the keyless entry & start (can’t remember the proper name for it) this hasn’t been working for a while and stopped completely before the software fix. Here’s what’s happens...

Key wont work more than a few inches from the car, wont open the door at all on keyless entry. Key rarely starts the car unless in the dash. If I start the car with either front door open as soon as the door is shut the car says key is removed from the car.

I’ve had a new key programmed (Volvo assured me this would solve the problem, it didn’t) had a software re-flash, this worked for about 2 hours and then reverted to previous problem.

If anybody wants to throw suggestions in I’m more than happy!

Yes.
XC70 has a problem with the wiring of the tailgate. Burns contact in the connector under the roof.
Volvo dealer knows about this problem and they have a solution. See attach file.

Johnny Kebab, maybe your car has this problem

I am a developer.
If you have questions about the module, I will be happy to answer
