A few more small screen apperences:
New Tricks (BBC 1) - DS Pullman (Amanda Redman) drives a C70

ER: A couple of seasons ago an eppisode opened with a harrased mum putting her kids into a 240 "wagon". You just new there was going to be a car crash killing the 240. It ended up trapped under a truck! Had they used a lesser car, the docs wouldn't have had much to do :-)

CSI: Miami - An episode from a few seasons ago had a press photogropher driving a 240 with very clean windows. He survived crashing into a tree (trusty volvo) but iirc ended up getting shot.

re "ER", I think it was a beige 740 estate auto. Note that the drivers door was open as car tumbles. All kids were were weating seatbelts.

I forgot too.

They probally keep in on the Eastenders fleet because they know a Volvo will always start and never let them down!

Old cars being the bane of a film crew, just when you need them they die ( I heard some terrible tales about Steeds Bentley in the Avengers ) and you have to get four burly prop men to push it onto the set off camera!

Also directors hate hanging around with twenty expensive technicians, sparks, costume, make up etc - doing nothing.

The answer ? - Use a Volvo!

For those old enough to remember, McGill, (Man in a Suitcase) drove a white 1800S in one episode, when he was on a mission in Sweden. It only lasted for a couple of opening scenes as it broke down at the roadside and it was abandoned.

Broke down!

Never!

Was the part ( like the Saints car ) originally cast for an E-Type Jag and they had to use a Volvo anyway - and where the scripty says 'Jag breaks down' they put 'Volvo breaks down'

>I have remebered another one - ' The World According to Garp'
>where Robin Williams drove ( 122 or 145 ? ) estate.

Isn't there a '80s / '90s film with Billy Crystal and Robin Williams, where they are in a very scruffy Amazon saloon?

How about:

"Mousehunt" (I think - with Lee Evans) - PV444
"The Saint" (Val Kilmer) - C70
"McGyver" - roll a 164 into a DC3
"Beetlejuice" - 245 ends up inthe river & kills Geena Davis & her screen husband
"The hand that rocks the Cradle" - 245(?) goes off cliff
"Messiah 4" - Police V70 T5 - owned by the film car company based in my village. They also supplied a silver 245 to Messiah 3.(IIRC)
"The Bill" - S60 owned by the Chief Super who shot himself
"Waking the Dead" series 1 -Trevor Eve drove an S80
"CSI - Crime Scene Investigation" - corpse found in S60
"Coronation Street" - S60 Police car
"Freaky Friday" - (new version) - several Volvos
"Desperate Housewives" - In the pilot Teri Hatcher drives a "Mk1" V70 XC. In the series it's a new XC70.
"Alias" pilot episodes - cars supplied by Ford so there's at least 1 S80!

Ref the 440 in the AA ad - I noticed it was a '92 but on an N-plate?

Must get out more....
