Smile '97 V.70 estate

Hi..I'm a new-boy here & have recently acquired a 'one owner' '97 V.70 52k orig.miles.great condition...etc.etc........ the 'only' keyfob has recently fallen appart & need some advice about buying a replacement - secondhand I guess..??....there seems to be loads on e/bay....how do I get a correct one for my car (as many look very similar) I still have my old one as a reference...are the stamped numbers on the back of it of any use?....also please what goes on about any replacement fob being recoded........Also I was under the impression that the car locking via 'key only' was of 'central-locking system'....however on my car the tailgate is permanently unlocked, with the other four doors normally locked......I have heard that this problem could be fuse related..would that be correct ?? ....I also have problems with the interior courteousy lights not automatically working when doors are opened...despite juggling around with the various permutations on the switches to get this system to work......but are ok on 'manuel' operations..........this last little problem doesn't really bother me but i'm interested to know what I can do about it.................the keyfob & central locking is a priority..........would greatly appreciate any advice please......cheers

The lack of central locking on the tailgate is quite often due to a break inn the wiring to the tailgate. There's a bundle of wires (for locking, lights and wipers) by one of the hinges, 20 years of flexing the wires with opening and closing the tailgate can cause the copper to break inside.

When I lost my keyfob Volvo dealer supplied a replacement £60 from memory, I then had both the old and new reprogrammed so that the lost one became useless, think total bill was £240 ish. Was a few years ago but both fobs still working as I sold the car to a neighbour some 3 years ago.

Yes it will cost more than e bay, but it will work as designed and intended. Vida doesn't work on these cars and few other than Volvo have the means to programme them.

Paul.
