B20F Backfiring through Inlet manifold
I've recently acquired a '72 142E, with a B20F. All is well, but the car has decided to stop running.
It will still crank, but after extended (10-15s) cranking, it will occasionally backfire through the Inlet manifold. This tells me that a Valve is not closing properly, or the firing order is wrong on the distributor. Having only owned the car for a brief period, I don't have much reference. In addition, I've found some coolant in the air filter assembly, which suggests Head gasket failure. Could this be contributing to the no-start? I was told the car would occasionally run badly on what seemed to be 2 cylinders. Now, question time. What is the correct placement of spark plug leads on the distributor (I've found conflicting information on this, and my distributor is not marked) |

If running isn't smooth, test or replace the vacuum pressure meter. I just replaced mine and am in heaven. If you want I can mail a troubleshooting guide. cheers, Rob. |
