Question rubber roof strips

Hi, The rubber roof strips on my 1998 V70 are starting to peel. I am thinking of removing the rubber in the centre channel and painting with hammerite smooth black paint. Has anyone else tried painting the strip and if so how did it last. thanks jack.

It's quite a common fix. On the 850 people also tend to just polish up the aluminium that the paint is peeling off.

Regarding how long it will last, depends on whether or not the paint is UV resistant, how well you prepped the surface, if you clearcoat it (UV resistant again), and if you keep it protected (wax/seal it). If you do all of them there is no reason it shouldn't last for a good few years.
