Default Cold air after temp. is reached - normal?

Hello,

in my 2011 s40, when the cabin temperature reaches the set temperature, the car starts blowing in unheated outside temperature (or something close to it). It actually feels cold and uncomfortable. Is this an issue with the inner temp. sensor or is this normal?

if you click menu, the climate settings. there is an option to enable auto air recirculation timer. Could this be something to do with it? maybe check this option and try changing it?

This is a normal function of automatic climate control, once the cabin set point is reached it no longer requires heat input so the fan speed reduces and the heat input also changes to cooler air, otherwise the cabin would become too warm. Of course eventually the cabin will coll below the set point and heat will be introduced again to top it up. The Volvo/Ford system is actually reliable with little complaints.

In the Climate menu you can set the 'Fan Speed' to something like Low, Medium & High, I suspect yours might be set high so that you're experiencing this cool airflow. Try adjusting and report back.

I don't know that option, I will check it.

It is set to "Normal" currently.

Edit: I will try to set it to "Low" and try again. I will only be able to do this tomorrow morning, because it is warm outside now.

I checked again, it was actually on "Low" already. The issue remains. Outside temp was 6 Celsius, once the cabin reached my set 21 C, the car started blowing cold air. It is uncomfortably cold. I have the climate control on Auto, but with the AC off.

If I manually lower the fan speed, it is OK, but this is not a real solution.

out of curiosity, if you have it on low fan speed non auto (as quiet as possible) and you activate the recirculation button, on and off, do you hear an actuator moving the flaps inside dash? Also same question with the windscreen demist button? I wonder if an actuator has failed and isnt closing as it should? this is random guesswork tho..... so not that helpful, sorry

I will have to check the recirculation mode. I don't really use this function except when I have to drive behind a stinky truck or am doing AC cleaning.

The front windshield demist works. Also, if I direct the air (head, torso, legs buttons), those work too.

The strange thing is, this same is not happening when it is warm outside and I use the AC to cool down the cabin. Warm air is not being blown in when the desired temp. is reached.

next time google search and forum search (lesson to us both).... looks like a known issue with volvo after all. Calibration issue. May be able to solve with a reset procedure involving key position and settings from inside car (google Volvo climate calibration). Otherwise it could mean cleaning contacts on your climate control module. Lastly, it may need VIDA to do a software update and reset your climate control.
