When this happens the engine drags/sucks the oil from the sump and SELF FUELS on it. It cannot be knocked off and usually revs harder and harder until all of the engine oil has been burnt and it self destructs.

If this has happened your mechanic may well be right and a used replacement engine will be the easiest/cheapest option.

Yep it's horrible situation, here's the example with BMW

the only solution is (if you have manual gearbox) press clutch pedal, turn fifth gear, press the brake pedal and release the clutch pedal.
It's possible to burn the clutch, But save the engine.

The next solution is, put potato into inlet hose

but who has potato in his car.

And d4192t3 = renault F9K not F9Q (different equipment mounting)

3,8k Euro ... in PL brand new d4192t3 costs about 2k Euro

If that car is in motion then you could change to fifth and then brake, but if the car is parked and you put in 5th, clutch WILL slip... better would be to put in in first wait until wheel spin(it shouldn't accelerate fast due to wheel spin on tarmac) and then push brake hard... or you could put your coat or other peace if cloth in air intake, just after air filter.

once the engine is repaired would you recommend a special brand-type of oil?

I just had a discussion with few members from bmw power forums.. this happens mostly in diesel bmw as well...
Best preventative ''maintenance'' for turbo diesel cars is know here as

fallowed by at least 3 minutes idling before switching off the engine.

P.S. or buy turbo timer on ebay.

Hi, after reading over 285 pages of the forum I have not yet clear what oil should I use for my v40 2002 with a renault D4192T3 / D engine
The engine had approx. 100kmilles .Due to a failure of the famous turbo. Now they are repairing the engine, putting new pistons, ( a few more things but I dont know the right words in english, sorry)etc. .. I am a bit worried about doing a good maintenance from now on so what oil would you use and how often or what millage intervals between changes. many thanks,
one more thing I live in Seville, southern Spain and in summer have temperatures of 40 º I've seen recommended gtx castrol Magnatec 10-40, but most people say synth. 5-40, renault recommends elf and volvo 10w-40 so I'm a little confused ... many thanks

What kind of oil you have had before ? i think You should use 10W40. i have about 240kkm and i 'am using Valvoline 10W40 and it's OK. I had Castrol before and the engine was little louder worked.

visco 3000 10-40 BP, every 10k km.
But really wasnt aware of the turbo so usually didnt wait a minute before stopping the engine and things like that.
