One or two notches off will make it run crap, you notice right away as the timing is not correct. Don't forget to retighten the new belts after say 500mls or so.

After the belt is back in place and tensioned remove the locking pin for TDC and turn by hand two complete revolutions using a 17mm(i think) socket over the crankshaft pulley. Ignore the marks on the timing belt but the camshaft pulley mark should return to the top, place the plastic cover with the timing mark on and they should line up and finally the pin to lock TDC should also slot back in perfectly. With the pin back in try turning over by hand again gently in both directions just making sure the pin is located and not either side of it.

Talking WooHoo!

Finished & all aok

Fired up & ran smoothly first time. So went for a quick spin, & it died just outside of my front gate Had to push it back into my drive. Fortunately it was just one of the turbo pipes had blown off, big Phew!

Now just got back from a 10-12 mile blat & all seems fine.

Meant to say, that bolt that obstructed the engine 'plug' in my first or second post is for the Auto- Box dipstick, not the engine oil one.

140,880K & rising.......... Discs & brakes next on the list methinks.

Many thanks to all posters on this, you kept my confidence up, as I was quite worried about doing this job.
