Hello and welcome to a new 440 diesel owner!

I've had two of these cars and the fuel consumption is superb!

Also, the turbo makes it quite a quick car!

I can give you the full specs later in the week as I'm not at home now but generally you need 10W40 for oil but ensure its one of a turbo and a diesel (additive packages vary between petrol, diesel, turbo and non-turbo).

Min to max is 2 litres on these cars.

Tyre pressures; with just light load (driver and one passenger) it's 30PSI in the fronts and 28 PSI in the rears.

What sort of MPG were you getting?

I ran a 1996 460 ES TD for 7 years and 101,000 miles up until August last year. Sold it with 201,000 on the clock and still miss it now as it had lots of character and I had a lot of memories of that car. Sold it as I was offered a replacement at too good a deal to miss and also the body corrosion was becoming a problem. Happily, as a technician I sold it to one of my customers and so I still mantain it.

My advice is, use 10w/40 semi synthetic oil, capacity is 5.5 litres. I changed mine every 5,000 miles with air and fuel filters every 10,000. Use a Fram PH5639 or Hengst H17W17 filter as it's much bigger than the interchangeable other recommendation for this engine. Always use a new crush type sump plug washer, 8mm key needed for the plug. Make sure you change the cambelt every 60,000 on the dot as at 60k I fould the belt was beginning to crack up.

I ran my tyres (185/55 HR15) at 32psi all round. I'm a fairly hard driver but never got less than 46mpg and usually 52mpg, once had 58mpg, always over the course of a whole tank (calculated by brimming but not allowing for any odometer error).

Very comfy car, only criticisms I had wee horrible gearchange, poor footwell space, poor headlights and rusty bodywork (though car is now 14), plus anti roll bar drop links wore out fast (ES and GS has rear ones too). Also as usual where the engine is not designed for the body various things are a bit tight for access.

I always thought these a very underrated car, nippy, economical and comfy and look pretty good as ES or GS with met paint and rear spoiler. Good luck with yours.

I got a haynes workshop manual (2nd edition as it covers post '92 model) for £5 brand new from ebay! invaluable though i still can't get the rear calipers off following its instructions.
