Yeah, seeing as the upgrade is offered as an accessory- I'd have to say no freebies..

Was the move from Pilot Assist to Pilot Assist 2 offered free?

Finally got a definitive answer on this:

The rear collision avoidance component is not fitted to the V60, S60, or XC40. You *do* get the assistance for swerving around a car that pulls out in front of you, and for run-off-road mitigation.

This link explains how the system works, and implies it's fitted to all cars with Intellisafe Surround:

https://www.volvocars.com/intl/why-v...isafe-surround

However, if you keep digging, and digging, and digging through Volvo's website you eventually come across this page in the support section for the V90:

https://www.volvocars.com/uk/support...a80151706a5baa

Scroll all the way down, and you see the line "steering assistance upon risk of rear end collision". Click on the little "i" and it says "Not applicable to XC40, V60 or S60".

It's quite misleading marketing, IMHO - will be interesting to see if the dealer offers anything in compensation.

I think that's the Volvo name for it. Swerving out of the way of a car in the blind spot is the bit of steering assist that's linked to BLIS.

Personal suspicion is that someone copied and pasted from the XC60 configuration, followed by an "oh ****" moment at Volvo after the release of the V60.

Although I do wonder why they didn't just fit it anyway.

My S90 definitely steers for me if it detects risk of collision. I had it the other day, was changing lanes to my right, car behind decided to accelerate into the gap and as I spotted him the car steered me back into the lane I was departing.

I then got the message that it had intervened to avoid a collision

I was always under impression that rear collision avoidance is part of the rear collision warning system- ie. its using the radars in the rear bumper rather than the rearview mirror- ntegrated ones used for BLIS.. This is what caused the misunderstanding earlier in the topic..

BLIS, rear collision warning and rear collision steering assistance all use the rear bumper radars.

There are no sensors in the mirrors (other than the external temperature sensor in the driver's mirror).
