Unchipped Key :~
1997 V70 2.5:~
I’m trying to get a key cut to fit the above car- just a straightforward one without the immobilizer chip. Tried two places without success one being Timpson’s- are these keys that difficult to get cut? Thanks Bob. |

I got an unchipped copy from my local Timpsons but he seemed to have a bit more idea than other branches I've been to. He had to order in the blank. Assuming the metal part is the same the markings on the key he used are JMA on one side, and NE 41P on the other. Cost about £20 as I recall but as I only have one proper key and another would cost something like £300, I figured £20 so I could at least open the door to push it out of the way was a reasonable price.
The unchipped key will turn the ignition and steering lock but the car doesn't start as there's no signal from a chip for the immobiliser.

Hi Bob hope you good
I had a key cut and chipped for my working V 70 last summer for £90 Volvo HQ having lost all the codes from the car, together with dealers said it could not be done. They were wrong. It s a case if finding somebody with the knowledge - various auto locksmiths also said it could not be done Are you running on just a single key, if so it is trouble just waiting to happen and expensive at that |

Fine here Big F- trust you are too & getting to grips with the car: ~
I have two working keys after having repairs done to the fobs but just want a basic extra one as a safety valve. We have a decent key & lock Ctr. not too far away so may try them or another branch of Timpson’s. Thanks to you both for the advice -Regards Bob |

Saffy has been at a decent local garage as I could not buy a new alternator for what they are doing a replacement for. 2 days have passed and no news so it can only be bad news
You are certainly covering all corners with a third non coded key ! Should not be too much trouble, if PNUTT finds the shaft to a key to my T5 which I snapped a couple of weeks ago I shall be getting one cut too I really can't see it being much of a job for anybody any good with the right blank Best of luck |

Thinking back the Timpsons I tried who said it couldn't be done their first action was to put the key in a reader device to check the chip (which they can't copy a rolling code chip) and perhaps once they'd found they couldn't do the chip they were in 'Computer says no' mode. When I went to the one on our high street I started by saying 'I know you can't copy the chip, I just want a mechanical copy for emergencies' which possibly got him into thinking outside of the computer listings.
