Wow, that's a very high oil consumption. Do you get any sign of smoke when starting, booting it or at hot idle and have you checked for signs of a HG failure, like Mayo or coffee cream streaks in the engine oil, oil in the header tank, an overflowing header tank when hot or a high coolant loss rate ??

If the HG and crank case vent (CCV) system are OK, about all you can do is try a major brand engine oil stop leak additive and a thicker oil, preferably a high mileage one, if sorting it would be too expensive.
Alas stop leak additives or the seal swellers in a high mileage oil like Castrol GTX 15w40 or Valvoline 10w40 will not help if the rings are bad. They can work wonders with bad valve guide oil seals, although replacing those seals is less expensive than a new HG.

Have to agree with this. I have now started taking my D5 down a local dual carriageway at 60 in third and fourth just to stop her complaining. She really does like a good thrashing and purrs like a well contented kitten afterwards. About 20 to 30 minutes does the trick I find. Plays hell with the fuel consumption mind!

I presume your black caravan is now white at the front, have you done the balloon test on the CCV, moved up an oil grade and tried a can of major brand stop leak ??
If it's venting OK, then the stop leak will take a few hundred miles and if that fails to stop it dripping or burning, think about a good used engine or a set of valve guide oil seals (Might as well fit a new HG at the same time).

Some Indy garages do not replace alternator pulleys, they just fit new Recon alternators. The reason is that the rectifier pack or alternator bearings have a habit of failing just after the pulley bearing, so they can't offer a warranty on the job.
