The noise from his filler cap is due to a vaccum leak. Probably the vac operated engine mounts. The ticking sounds like lifter noise to me. Early euro4's suffered with weak lifters.

Your lifters are fine
Only get that noise when one completely fails and you get blow back through the airbox. I replaced mine last year and one of the exhaust lifters on cyl1 was all smashed and deformed. The rest had either collapsed or had seized high. I've even seen one that had detached from the rocker, slipped to the side and then smashed the lifter seat.

Did you get same or similar sound as on mine?
I have done engine flush with liqui molly, fresh oil and even added additive for lifters, but no improvement so far.

Update I did the lifters at the weekend it's made a huge difference 2 lifters were fully gone inlet no 3 and exhaust 7 meaning cylinders 2&4 were very inefficient there was 3 more on the way also
I can't believe I got away reasonably light as in the camshafts weren't damaged at all I replaced one rocker cause the retaining clip had it
It's not a bad job overall well once the injectors are out ( there's always one ) which caused more hardship than the job itself.
With injectors out it took approx 4 hours of labour I just took the timing belt off the camshaft pulley and used tippex, fan belt stayed in place, new inlet gasket and now it's like a Swiss watch as opposed to a Nuffield with everyone turning to look for all the wrong reasons 👍

Ps them lifters are also found in a large range of petrol and Diesel engines I got some more from a Kia dealer Volvo hadn't more in stock
There also in fiat Opel Bmw Citroen Peugeot engines hope this helps somebody and most of these don't use the same oil grade

Have you heard before hand how it sounded with his engine?
I have also the same noise (if cover is removed and listen carefully) with new lifters

I dont have to remove cover or open bonnet, I can hear it straight away - clicking, rattling badly.

My lifters where also bad/soft but no ratling , i have the impression your engine sounds "fine" and its slight injector ticking (try the stetoscope! )
Replacing the lifters will not be cheap they are expensive and you also need new steel injector feeds
If it where your lifters than they are starved from oil due to lack/pollution in stead of leaking bad/soft if it is metallic noise .

Try an engine flush from forte and refill with new oil and forte top end additive
Also try an injector flush and clean the injector solenoids
even if it not helps clear the noise it could be helpful for fuelconsumption etc
