Something happens nearly every time I get to J16 of the M1 southbound, down past J15A and to J15. All of the traffic seems to go crazy, undertaking, tailgaiting, racing etc. The number of small "hot-hatches" seems to increase.

It's barmy and we often joke/comment on it when traveling down there.

Must be the proximity to Silverstone.

M25 anti-clockwise from M4 to M3 is pretty special, fortunately its gridlocked most of the time.

M27 Portsmouth section, should be a lesson on how not to build a stretch of motorway 2 lanes joing 2 lanes to make a 4 lane cluster f@ck. The bit that rounds Southampton is possibly worse than the M25 for gridlock traffic.

On the other hand the M6 toll, is possibly one of the best bits of road as all the numpties tend to avoid paying. Making the actually charge for a reduced numpty count piece of road, in my experience.

Fortunately my days of driving the length of the country are long gone, an hours drive (in the UK) is a long way for me these days, give me a continental road any day, I'd happily drive for hours in Europe.

Saying that though, it gets a bit interesting on the North and South bound approaches to the M6 Toll when people make sudden lane changes to avoid getting stuck on the Toll road. M6/A14 at the bottom of the M6 keeps some people guessing and then there’s a sudden and unannounced lane change which has been causing chaos since they opened it.

Which came first?

Idiot drivers or poor road design?

Both equally culpable, made worse by congestion.

Come to Cornwall, every road is full off idiot drivers. Come and watch them try and take on a roundabout ... let alone 2 small roundabouts together. Its absolute chaos

I went down to Cornwall one year for a holiday, 3-4 years ago during the first week of August. The M5 going down, followed by the dual carriageway into Cornwall, forget the number, were full of idiot drivers. Big sweeping, curved, downhill roads that people didn't want to break on. Caravans being towed at 80mph, lorries on the edge of jack knifing, cars that no one could see out of driving far too quickly. I was the slowest person on those roads at 70mph, slowest by some margin.

I was constantly looking, waiting for accidents to happen, to be prepared to react. I am never surprised when I hear of accidents on those roads, they attract planks.

hahaha yes I completly agree, not to mention when the roads get single lane (Main road from truro to falmouth) people just cross the roads blindly without even looking
