Intermittent momentary cutting out during driving
2013 diesel C70 cutting out at all speeds.
Low mileage (29k) 2013 auto diesel C70: starts OK every time. Intermittently cuts out momentarily at all speeds and in all ambient temperature condions. Worse when low on fuel. Never stops or stalls. Volvo dealer have replaced various sensors and all filters and eliminated any air associated problems. Volvo dealer is guessing that it's the fuel pump and associated ECM (engine control module) for a large bucketful of money but will not guarantee that this will solve problem which is not very encouraging having already emptied my wallet of a bucket load of hard earned cash for the initial investigations and replacement parts and watched me drive - no hiccup - out of their dealership. So I might as well have a go at doing the job myself. Starting with the pump. How do I remove the one piece back seat without ruining the beautiful soft leather to get to where I assume the pump is located. I managed to unclip the two outer retainers but there are two more towards the middle which I couldn't unclip. Any help with all of the above would be appreciated. |

You could do with going to a specialist garage that can test your parts. There a place near me (northwest)that does all ecu repairs etc but once told me they can test most stuff including sensors. You could do with finding a place like that near you. Have you thought about going a diesel specialist and have them check your fuel pressure etc?
You will find most main dealers will just want to replace what the computer tells them is wrong which isn't always the case. I find specialist garages are cheaper and can save a lot of money than guessing.

Can't help you with the pump location, but the picture on this page might help you get the seat out.
As far as I know, seat base has two clips towards the front outside, pull up sharply, then push down and backwards at the rear to release. Seat back is also clipped, pull sharply outwards from under the headrests. Hope this helps and good luck with your fault trace. Let us know on the C30/S40/V50/C70 section of the forum what you find.

Thanks, I managed to remove seat. Only the level sensor is located there. Removed the spare wheel and trimming and I can just spot what could possibly be a pump in a very semi hidden location requiring further trimming to be removed. I'll have another go soon when it's warmer - did someone say Spring has arrived ???

The hydraulic pump for the roof system is certainly buried down at the bottom of the back seat wall. I read that there is a low-pressure lift pump inside the fuel tank itself, that feeds the main engine pump. I had the boot flooring out once on my old one but I don't remember there being any access to the top of the fuel tank from inside the boot. I think you may be looking at dropping the tank.
