Default Fault code P225B on 2019 XC90 D5????

Hi, been a while since I posted here.

Got a brand new XC90 R Design D5 a few weeks ago and the engine management light is on already after only 600 miles.

When I scanned it with my code reader I got P225B, but I can’t find any definitive record of that code anywhere online.

Can anyone help identify what it means.

I’ll phone the dealer in the morning but would like to find out how serious it may or may not be.

Cheers

A 10 second google search suggests maybe the fuel filler cap not seating properly. Did the code occur soon after refuelling?
A couple of alternative suggestions are a faulty EGR sensor or engine oil temperature sensor.

Either or whichever, apart from the fuel filler issue, which you can probably diagnose visually, you need to use your VOC system to send fault code to your dealer and probably arrange a visit.

Yay, beautiful! You NEED all this hassle cos Volvo still can’t put these things together without all this grief and multiple returns to the dealer. Many of us have been through similar and it just isn’t good enough for the amount of money we’ve paid for these cars. They look nice but the build quality is often atrocious.

According to the latest Auto Express Driver Power survey, Volvo came 13th in the Manufacturer’s league table out of 28 with an average share of owners with faults of 17.7%.

Audi. 16th. 21.0% owners with faults
Land Rover 20th. 35.7% owners with faults
BMW. 25th. 22.3% owners with faults
Mercedes. 26th. 24.0% owners with faults

It looks like your perceived view of Volvo is not borne out by these figures, roosterb.

How exactly are we interpreting this data? Every 6th Volvo has a fault but if you are driving one with a fault you shouldn’t get frustrated because every 5th Audi has a fault? How about there are a dozen manufacturers that have fewer frustrated users than Volvo. Can we let roostreb be frustrated? I believe the data supports him.

Interpret it whichever way you want- but saying that Volvo's build quality is "atrocious" is A BIT of an overstatement I would say.. Equally dumb would be if I would write that Volvos don't break- based on my trouble-free 1.5 yr. ownership of my XC60..

I think it shows that every manufacturer produces vehicles that owners can have issues with, whether you pay £10,000 or £150,000 - even so called prestige manufacturers Ferrari, McLaren et al - don’t produce cars without faults.

It is how the Dealers sort out these issues that is more important and we all know that there are good and bad dealers no matter what vehicle you purchase.

But if the perceived view that Volvo build quality is atrocious, the owners of the vehicles who responded to the Driver Power Survey suggest that the main rivals to Volvo have had more issues with their vehicles, so their build quality must be worse than atrocious!!

Very true. If the dealer reacts quickly and resolves the issue, our perception of the brand is enhanced, or at the very leased, not dented.

I know we are digressing from the OP’s initial query regarding fault codes, but there is a danger of bias within satisfaction surveys, in that those that choose to respond, tend to have a reason to respond, in the form of either dissatisfaction in the product, or more rarely, total satisfaction in any given product.

Couple that with Confirmation Bias and the Horn Effect, and any bias whin the framing or the questions, any satisfaction survey will need to be taken with a pinch of salt.

There are very few major issues reported on this forum, the vast majority are minor software glitches most of which are soon rectified by the dealers as I suspect the fault code will also be a minor quick fix.
There are a few that have taken longer to resolve and a few more serious problems but they are few and far between.
Even the most often reported mechanical faults are usually minor fixes like PP hoses or emission control sensors and Battery problems, as they now brand them as premium cars some people will have a higher expectation level or higher disappointment level but on the whole they are well screwed together and a decent build quality.
As with all new models it takes several years to iron out weak spots and component problems and carry out continual improvements with each year model, once they get it near perfect they discontinue the model and start all over again with a new model.
I only hope they sort out the road noise, which in my main complaint.
