Yes it is possible - you would need a donor car though and you would be adding complexity and the potential for problems. I would NOT recommend or contemplate doing it.

Fair enough, i'm quite happy to knock another job of the list! I'll have to practice my braking.

Please do not take this as a criticisim of your driving. Have you ever considered taking a defensive driving course? I became an Institute of Advanced Motorists member when I was 18. I found the instruction I took taught me a lot and has stood me in good stead. I also managed a refresher on a local police run better driving course. Learning defensive driving should mean that emergency braking is almost unknown.

Still doesn'tprotect you against the cat running out fro btween a car, the child suddenly deciding to step out or the doddery old man pulling out in front of you (we have alot of thouse on the Isle of Wight!). I take you point though and may look into this

Indeed, the big advantage of ABS is that it copes with the human panic factor, where people press haarder and hard in the hope of stopping.
They don't, the wheels are locked and can't go any slower!!

Hence the cadence braking (and I suspect that a driving course will help tremendiously) can assist. BUT it is preperation for the unexpected that allows you to apply cadence braking.
Knowing how to cadence brake, does not necessarily mean that you will apply that knowledge!

Happened with me on a hill with ice/snow. Car just wouldn't stop. Blind panic takes over and the pressure on the brake peddle increased..!!!
Didn't stop the car though, the opposite kerb did.

Des. . .

I know what you mean! The cat is difficult to anticipate and they do move fast. However, you will be anticipating that child or doddery old man and adjusting speed and road position to protect yourself. In my youth I did have one or two minor bumps but the most serious in fact the only one in the past twenty years was when the front hub came off a transit I was driving. Because I am human and my attention does go on occasions I will a couple of times a year have to brake a little harder than I like but again because of my training I have that safety space for these "moments". If you decide to take the plunge you will realise afterwards it is probably the best investment (after your Volvo) you can ever make. I wish you well.
One other point it is worth checking out the rear brakes. Partially seized calipers, sticky calipers and corroded ot worn discs all affect efficiency and make the front more likely to lock.
