Decided to go direct to Volvo garages, as i felt happier for after sales issues etc.
Dove Volvo in Gatwick managed to source the car, and actually beat Broom Broom by £240, but only if I got volvo finance. Didn't want to get hp from volvo so I went to Volvo in colindale after emailing the quote on. They managed to match the price without having to get finance.

I them did the same to Pilling Volvo in Hemel Hempstead who could only get within £1500 of the broom broom price.

I therefore bought from Colindale (Adam McDowall).

Car cost £35,310 which is 2.4D se with winter pack and full comms pack, i.e sat nav and gsm phone.

The only way they matched was because i had a quote.
I'll be taking the "best" quote I find to my local dealer and giving them a chance to match it. As I said, depending on their situation (month end etc) and how well they've done with targets, they may or may not...

Lets say a dealer gets £3k profit on each XC90. Lets say they get a bonus from Volvo of £5k if they sell 10 in a month. If they've sold 9 and its right at the end of the month, its worth it for them to sell the 10th for £3k LESS than normal, as they'll make £5k in bonus.

The trick is (obviously) finding the dealer who needs to do that deal (or is willing to do it anyway) - and I guess that is where these broker sites come in.

If my local dealer won't / can't match the price, its no skin off my nose... I'll just give the deal to the one that will.

Best £25 you could ever spend..

Welcome to the forums and enjoy your time here, enjoy that nice new XC90 too..

In my opinon, and experience, if you're seriously haggling with a dealer, the VOC discount becomes meaningless (it'll get used anyway). The VOC discount is for people who don't like to haggle.

Maybe, but the VOC discount is from Volvo UK and in addition to anything you get haggling away with the dealers...

Default VOC Discount

I believe that for the dealer to get a discount they had to speak to Volvo Uk anyway. For instance Volvo Uk were offering £2k off if their finance was taken.
I would be amazed if on top of the £4k + discount you could then go back for a further discount, flashing the VOC card.

Out of interest what discount would the VOC card offer?

thanks

I managed to beat down my local dealer here in Belfast with a BroomBroom quote. I got a 2007 D5 SE Geartronic with window tints, winter pack, towbar and rear bike rack for £34,300. Normally things are more expensive here in NI but I was pleased with the way things went. I think the impending new X5 and decent offerings from Audi etc. may have focused Volvo minds.

I used a Drive the Deal quote to haggle with my dealer last year. They couldn't match it, but came close enough to get my business. My 2006 D5 SE Geartronic with winter pack and tints cost £34475, a good saving over lst price. Didn't know about the VOC discount then, otherwise I would have tried for it in addition.

Regards,
Patrick.

I bought through DriveTheDeal as my three nearest Volvo dealers would not get close to the ~£5000 discount on a 2007 D5 SE Geartronic with extras via the broker. The car came from Volvo in Grantham who were great and were more than happy to take the money off me. I can't work out why my local dealers would turn away the business? Anyway, apart from shocking fuel economy (see separate thread) I'm a happy XC90 owner and would not hesitate in using DriveTheDeal again.
