XC90 - IPod
Having had my XC90 Active now for a month and with Christmas coming up I was thinking of getting Ipod with the main idea of using it in the car.
As I've never bought or owned an ipod before I would be interested to hear which ipod to get and which way is best to connected it to the car. Many thanks to all of you that answers |

I recommend you buy a cheap USB stick and use that (you should have the USB connection on your car). If you do go for an IPOD, needs to be a version post 2005 to work.

I'm running an Ipod classic via USB in the XC90. I tried connecting my Iphone 3GS but it didn't like it. You need to run it through the USB connection to retain control over the playlists via the steering wheel - running it via the AUX socket means you will need to control via the Ipod itself.

I have a 8GB Nano (v.2) and an iPhone (3GS), both work & charge via the USB socket (using the standard white Apple cable), but I've switched to using a 4GB (cheap) USB Stick.
It saves having to connect and unconnect, just leave it always plugged in, no batteries to worry about, way easier to use / control and IMHO the sound is better. My tip for a USB stick, is to create folders of Artists / Bands and then sub folders of there Albums / Songs. Makes it quick and easy to find what you want to listen to and once one folder has played it auto moves to the next one down. But don't do like I did and copy loads of music bought from iTunes onto the USB stick, they are in Apples 'ACC' format and the Volvo only plays MP3 or WMA formats. Chaddie

Very intersting thread this...
I've got a 2004 XC90 with the High Performance sound system and I'd love to be able to use my MP3 player in the car. I don't know of the USB connection mentioned in the earlier posts so will assume my car doesnt have one. I dont like the FM transmitters as the quality is really poor. I'd be grateful for thoughts on a solution to this. Regards, Russ |

Hi Bignose, thanks for the link.
I've looked through the spec but it doesnt seem to support the XC90... are you currently using one of these? Regards, Russ |

I'm interested in how the USB memory stick works. Can anyone tell me how you select tracks when using it. Thanks in advance.

You use the steering controls, so Volume UP / Down and the Arrows for skip Forward / Backwards. You can also press 'ENTER' and it gives a list of all the music files, Tracks, Artists, Albums (Folders / Sub Folders etc), so you can jump straight to a Track or Album etc. but this depends on how you've saved the music tracks onto the USB Stick.
