What sort of miles has the car done??

Does it get used for short journeys??

Do you know if its the original battery??

Have you had any previous "battery low" warnings??

The thing to look out for is the speed of cranking of the engine whilst starting on the starter motor. If it seemed slower, then it's maybe time for a new battery. If not then should be okay. A lot of places will test batteries f.o.c. but usually oversell new ones - even the common breakdown companies (AA, RAC).

Volvo batteries usually last 8 years plus and I think they actually last longer in higher mileage, more frequently used cars than those left standing for a few days at a time.

If you do need a new battery - the dealer is a good place to go, genuine Volvo batteries are surprisingly affordable and you are guaranteed to get the right one. Expect to may maybe 20-30% more than the cheapest from your local motor factors but if you are keeping the car a while it is worth it.

Just got my XC60 back from service & as part of it ran a battery health check.

My battery at 5yrs old failed the test on the 1st stage (recharge performance) so is on it's last legs.

As you can read, Andy used another dealer to avoid the 'North East' monopoly, as do I.
