Do you understand the rules of Cricket?

One side is in and the other is not. The side that is not in, try to get the side that is in, out. Each player goes out and is in until he is out, except one, who is not out.
etc...

"Nearside" always has me flummoxed. Near to the curb? Or near to the Driver's seat, which is normally near the road middle, unless you drive a LHD in a RHD country or vice versa.
When I think of it, I consider as the driver is making the reference, nearside would logically be the side closer to the driver.

And "Near" is a relative term: near to me may be far to you. It's usage is thus dependent on the user.

And why is "offside" the opposite to "nearside"? the opposite to near is far, and the opposite to off is on.
So why isn't it nearside and farside, or onside and offside?

Left and Right are absolute. Can never be confused.
Unless you turn around and look backwards....

Anyway, what with "nearside" and "offside", referring to vehicle age by number-plates, and sticking to inches and drinking pints out of 600mL glasses (which is more than a pint), the UK will forever confuse people like me.

And lets not talk about internet speeds in millibits/s (mb/s)

Errrr.... yerr I take your point.

FYI our pints are drunk from 568ml glasses (by law) but we can't drink soft drinks in pints, they have to be sold metric units, hence are referred to as large or small. And bits are not divisible - do you mean megabits per second?

Going to the dealer and figuring out which side is which is something I’ve done before posting. Just trying to source the part thru alternative channels since this part is most likely not unique to a xc90.

Ok... slightly confused as your OP was asking for a part number. Whilst I can’t say it for an absolute fact I am 99.99% certain that the mirror parts will be unique to Volvo and it’s most unlikely that pattern (non genuine) parts are available other than the mirror glass and heating pad. The XC90 is a P2 car and designed in the days before Ford made Volvo use their cheap, inferior parts so a mirror from a Fiesta is unlikely to fit.

Some parts of the door mirror assemblies on the P3 (I.e. 2007 -> 2016) XC70 are borrowed from the XC90 but that not likely to be any benefit to you as it won’t be any cheaper from a dealer.

With regard to us hijacking your thread... well I can only apologise. Some of us spend a lot of our own time on here trying to help others because we love the Volvo brand and want our experience and knowledge to help others enjoy their cars. occasionally we lapse into some good natured banter with each other probably because we are old and nearly senile. I will ask the moderators to return your fee for putting YOUR thread on OUR forum.
