Default Why torque difference

I posted this question in the V70 P3 section recently but go no answer, perhaps in Diesel engine section someone will solve my curiosity.

I recently discovered that the latest D5 engine (215BHP) runs at two torque levels, depending upon transmissions (420Nm and 440Nm) man/Auto.

WHY?

I thought it might be the clutch could not take the extra torque, ( as in the V70 AWD R the auto box was torque reduced IIRC in 1st and 2nd) but I see that the Polestar option is available for manual cars which .... you've guessed increases the torque of the manual cars???

So now I'm back to square one - Why does Volvo de tune the manual??

Cheers

Bob
