Default Thankyou.

2 questions If I May.

1 Where is the torsion bar? Sorry if this seems a stupid question.

2 Where is the best place to order Volvo parts?

I ordered the mount from a shop who supplies to all local garages, but I don't know whether it is a genuine Volvo part or not. It looks identical to the old mount on the car.

The bar thats goes across from one side of the inside of the engine bay to another. The engine mount sits just underneath it, slightly to the right (big Silver thing !)

Volvo parts - from a Volvo dealer.

There are many good supplier of parts and people have their own preference as to who they use.

Its just my choice to use Volvo as much as possible given the amount of good service they have provided on my car with circa 120k miles so far and drives very very well indeed.

Hi Colinbos,

Are you saying no more than 1cm of movement of the torsion bar itself, front to rear or of the bolt its fastened to, that passes through the rubber of the top mount?

My torsion bar moves quite a bit (possibly > 1cm) the rubbers do seem to be a bit soft, or softer than I was expecting...

Would you replace the two other mounts on either end of the bar as well?

Cheers

Ive replaced mine with a new Volvo mount. Ive also used Torsion bar/ Strut brace inserts on either end. It moves less than 1cm, back to front. I used these as it was cheaper than full replacement of the bar mounts.

The engine still has room to move, and there is no shaking at all with the use of the torsion bar inserts.

If you PM me your mobile number, I can video the movement and send it you via whatsapp if that helps?

I replaced the top engine mount on my XC90 today and thought I would post the procedure.

Remove the engine cover.
Remove the through bolt on the mount (15mm socket for bolt head and 18mm socket for nut).
Attachment 24437

Remove the right hand side restraint as it makes it easier to remove the mount (17mm socket for the bolt head and 18mm socket for the nut) and swing it towards the front of the engine compartment (not too much as it is still restrained on the left hand side).
Attachment 24438

Remove 3 off studs (14mm socket) and 2 off studs (10mm socket) from the mount and lift the aluminium block out.
Attachment 24439
Attachment 24440

Here are the two mounts side by side. Hopefully the new one is a little bit sturdier.
Attachment 24441

Reverse the procedure when fitting the new block, the Volvo mechanic said that the studs holding the block down should be set to 50 Nm (36.8 ft/lbs).

Here is the new block in position.
Attachment 24442

Took no more than 30 mins to do.
The new mount cost £55 and the part number for mine is 30776354 (Engine Anchorage).

Hope this helps some of you who are unsure about tackling the basic jobs on your car.
Hi there. Im looking at this on my galaxy s7 and cant seem to find any photos. Are they still there?

Hi and thanks for your post. Did you have to support the engine block when remove the old mount? My mechanic at Volvo dealership said I need to support it .. otherwise the engine drops. I have 2007 XC90. Thanks for reply!

No you do not need to support the engine block when replacing the top engine mount, the engine will not drop. Whilst you are doing the top mount it's worth checking the lower engine torque rod as it will most likely be in need of replacement and again you do not need to support the engine block when changing this item.
