Default S80 Headlight Issue

Hi All,

The nearside dipped beam is currently not working on my 2003 S80 D5.

I suspected it to just be case of replacing the bulb, however this did not solve the problem.

Whilst fiddling around down there though, with the lights set to on, suddenly the bulb illuminated. Then i moved one of the wires and it went out again. So it looks like it's some kind of a connection problem.

Has anyone heard of this before or can advise what would need replacing or fixing?

Thanks

You have H7 bulbs in that, yes?

The 2 blades of the bulb go into the cheap (surprisingly cheap) plug. The plug is nothing more than 2 female spade connectors. They lose their bite.
All you need do is crack the plastic away. That is likely all but done anyway.
Each side of both terminals is rolled metal. Give each a squeeze down with pliers.
I recommend a dab of dielectric grease or silicone paste on the blades before you shove 'em back on. This reduces resistance and keeps corrosion down. This is doubly important in body (exterior) bulbs. Can't go wrong.

The structure of the female connector is strong and you needn't fret shorting.

From what I can see, the plastic is already gone!

On mine, it's just two wires, one black one green, with female spade connectors at each end plugging directly onto the male spades at the back of the H7 bulb!
