Red face Throttle cleaninig

Hi i was told by a Volvo mechanic,to only use intake cleaner and not be liberal with it,ie dont spray into the body but use a lint free cloth or paper.
Wurth i know make this ive got some on order.

An old toothbrush is the ideal tool to clean a throttle flap and body , brake cleaner disolves the carbon too .

having the same throttle issue in a 2004 S80 2.0 Turbo problem being all the intakes seem to vanish off down the back of the engine somewhere...

Yes, you're right Mike, the turbo is very different. The throttle body is buried away under the inlet manifold so trickier to access. VIDA says to removed the inlet manifold but there is no need to do this. You should be able to find a couple of thread on this on the forum with the details but essentially you need to remove the pipework to the throttle, helps to remove the radiator fan, you can remove the 4 bolts holding the throttle to the manifiold by reaching underneath and feeling your way. The ETM will come away. There is just about room to clean it in situ but I removed mine to do it.

Took me ages the first time I did it, but probably half an hour to remove once I had knew what I was doing.

it is hard to see , but is that carbon i see around the edge of the brass throttle plate and alloy housing> ? The dirt blocks airflow from going around the throttle plate when it is near closed ( Idle ) you need to open the throttle with your hand with ignition off and clean it thoroughly and the housing so there is no sign of carbon ...
The critical area is that between throttle plate and housing when it is shut . the dirt around the main housing just 6 mm away from the throttle makes no difference ..

Undo this screw on the jubilee clipAttachment 8341

and detach this end of the hoseAttachment 8342

Viewed from a different angle, you should now be able to see into the throttle boxAttachment 8344

Looking in closer....Attachment 8343This is the inside of the box you need to clean, your's will probably be very sooty, you can move the brass coloured flap to clean in behind it too.
Hope this is of help to you.

Weird. The picture links show up in my quote but not in the original, but still no pictures.
Probably won't apply to my V70 as it's a Turbo.

Thank`s Oscar, i`am not mechanical minded at all but managed this job

Now my idle is ok, can anyone tell me please, while i start to accelerate i get a rumble/barbel similar noise like you get from a car with one of the big back pieces on an exhaust. It goes away when i start to drive of at a higher acceleration.

I was hoping this would be related to my idle problem but its still there.
