Default Losing electricity...

I posted in here a few weeks ago having been caught out with the car been stood during lockdown. Not much more then usual, but anyway.
Flat Battery, blown alternator diagnosed, replaced under warranty. A week later same issue, so figured what they hello, fresh battery as it was the original.
No issues since and I've been regularly using the car every two days.
Today however, won't crank over again. Enough for electrics, but that's it.
Starting to lose heart with the car now, as this will be the third time it's done this to us and I'm starting to lose confidence as well need the car to be trusted to start.
I'm wondering if the dvd players in the headrest might be the drain. Don't know why, as they turn off when the engine goes off, though until the new battery they didn't come on unless the engine was on. No idea how that's been reset, if that's what it is.

Any ideas before I get rid and end up with something large, petrol and Japanese?

Get a multimeter and do a parasitic drain check.

Search youtube plenty on there.

Plot thickens.... Recovery breakdown lot, direct feed to starter, instant on.
Maybe a relay staying open to an ecu?
Fuse?
More to come......

..... And now the gearbox panel lights don't show, no great indicator on dashboard and it won't shift gears.
Nasty clunk on engaging D or R.

Garage currently shut but I daren't turn off in case it won't start again.
Complicated faff for the simple end user.
Remember when cars were simpler?

I’m sure I’ve read posts on here that a loose injector connector can cause similar issues to what you are having, maybe take them all off spray some electrical cleaner and refit them, I maybe wrong but worth a try and it’s easy.

Discussions between auto sparky and Volvo indie are saying a canbus communication error between modules.
This could get expensive....I've had a report of a £1200 bill for an ecu and reprogramming.
Nissan Elgrand and new kiddies car seats looking more and more likely.....I know that seems frying pan into it the fire, but choices for full-size 6/7 seaters with some boot space are limited unless going for vans with seats bolted in as an afterthought.
Discuss.... Whilst praying for my wallet and sanity.

+1

Check the connections to the injectors.

Daniel is right, this has caused the symptoms re gear selection you now have.

No 3 and 5 usual culprits from memory.

It's free to check so give it a try:👍

So finally the Volvo indy took a look today. Rogue wire on the amp, which is for the dvd players.
Best guess is that the switching power has given up the ghost and it's just running from the permanent feed.

Anyway, pricing a switch up to manually isolate and fit on the centre console somewhere.

That's great Joe that you've isolated the problem.

Fitting a switch will do it but will you remember to switch it off each time?

I know I wouldn't - I even forget to close the sunroof sometimes...

Can I suggest you incorporate an indicator lamp? Or even use an illuminated switch?

Cheers

Dave

That's my thinking too.
I did mention to the garage about using a switch is already used for the parking sensors etc... On the centre console, below the a/c, with s little green light in it.
There's even a button blank already there too.....
I've just spent the last twenty minutes looking I in eBay for just a switch/button, but only seem to get while consoles.
Parking sensors switch, BLIS switch, rear AC switch.... Any other options on xc90s that came with illuminated switches?
