Default For sale - V70 2.5D manual 1999 (Model year 2000) V reg

My well-loved, but also well-worn, silver V70 has to go because it would cost too much for me to have the corrosion around the rear of the chassis repaired to get the next MOT certificate. Something another person might consider to be a project.
I bought her outside London in 2002 with 45000 miles, she is now at 360000 miles here in Northern Ireland. Full Volvo service history. Engine can be slow to start but still runs well, and still returns 45mpg. The fuel pump belt and battery were replaced last year. I was going to replace the headlamp units this year as the silvering is faded. (I could include the boxed new units I bought before I discovered the chasis problem.) CD/Tape/Radio fitted, original Tape/radio unit also available. Some minor leaks of oil and water, cracking in some plastic panel parts such as the armrest. Air-con/ECC doesn't work - siezed pump - but heater working. Rust staining from behind rear number plate. Current MOT certificate still valid to 17 December. If I can't find her a home by then I'm afraid it's off to T-Met.
I'll try and get some decent photos in the next few days and add them here.

Fantastic bit of machine, just like my own at 293K, I hope you do find a buyer and she continues to live on.

Not after buying, but well impressed with that mileage!

Out of interest how bad/ where to keep an eye out for the corrosion, as I’d hate to be in this situation. I’m planning to take rear bumper off soon to redo the brackets. (Sagging) and worried what I may find now. I will be prepped with some anti rust/ protection products.
Cheers.

When you take off the rear inner plastic wheel arch liners is when the fun starts 😂

The rear ends of the chassis legs were found corroded around the towbar mounting points last year and had to be welded up. The latest corrosion is to and around the rear axle mountings; trying to take them off will require a lot of rebuilding and maybe some fabrication work to put them back.
Corrosion to the bodyshell is limited, although in the photos you can see the staining on the tailgate from behind the number plate. There are a few small bubbles starting to appear at a few points but still very minor.

I've just fixed my own with the same issue. Slightly leaky diesel engine keeps the corrosion off the entire front of the car. But absolute rear of the sills (under plastic covers) tend to rott out at this age, as does rear seat mounts under the rear wheel arch plastic covers and at the bottom of the rear wheel arch where it meets the sill.
Skandix do a repair panel for the arch and the sill, a small amount of fab work required for the part in between. Rear chassis legs around boot/ towbar area are very simple by comparison.
Got a thread in the discussion area of the forum on this very thing. Its whats killing MOST p80 cars now is corrosion in these areas. If rest of car is upto scratch then its worth repairing in my book.
