Default Headlights Constantly On XC60

Just purchased a 2011 XC60 and can't turn the headlights off, they are on once the engine has started. Any help would be appreciated on how to switch them off

Im assuming you have “normal” halogen headlamps.Yes is the short answer. The best you can get is side marker lights( switch at middle position). But you must turn the switch to left or right when you leave car, otherwise it’s flat battery time. Did you not get a user manual with your car? you can download a manual.

They are the cars Daytime Running Lights (DRL's) and hence the are on permanently unless the light switch is to Pos I which is side lights.

They can be turned off via a software update from Volvo, this is a main dealer item only and will cost around £80-£120 to do.

What's the point of the daytime running lights I mean the light strip by the grill if lights are on constantly. Is there any software I can purchase to do it myself via OBD2?

So, are you saying that the daytime running lights are on as expected, but the headlights are also on all of the time?

Also, does your XC60 have a four-position light switch, i.e.

1) All lights off apart from daytime running lights

2) Sidelights only

3) Automatic (lights come on and go off according to lighting conditions)

4) Headlights permanently on

And, if so, what position is your switch in when the problem occurs?

The LED strip lights either side of the grill do not have the required intensity for a Daylight Running Light. They are nothing more than a side light/ parking light/ front marker light.

When you turn lights off they remain on regardless of switch position unless it's just on side lights

If you turn your light switch to (upright /12 o’clock). Side lights only are illuminated until you turn them off. Can I suggest you go outside whilst it’s dark and play with the light switch so you can familiarise your self with what each switch position does.

My car has 3 positions on the light switch but only needs 2 as only the centre position makes a difference. The left switch position used to work differently to the right position but when my car had software update it came back working the same as the right position and it was never explained why to me.
