No it's not. I'm just a bit of a worrier so don't want to do anything that would cause a problem! In this instance just trying to avoid interrupting DPF regen cycles.

I know I should just drive the bloody thing and stop trying to avoid problems I may never have but I can't help it!

yes just get on driving it ! Volvos system is robust if it does find a situation where it cant regenerate it will give you a message SOOT FILTER FULL and you should then go for a normal 50 mph drive for 30 mins, No high revs needed just normal driving .

There's a similar thread or two here on this. The regen happens every approx 23 or more grams depending on the conditions. Half cycles seem to be ok.

As noted above, the system is very robust. Keep the car well maintained with the correct spec oils etc and dont worry about the dpf. There are other problems that you will need to spend time on.

Yep saw it happen today on my way to a site. The soot reached 24.1g then started decreasing quite rapidly. It was down to 4.3g in under 10mins then started to creep up slowly again at 0.1g intervals as usual.

Other problems??? I thought Volvos were supposed to be different-better-more reliable than 'normal' cars?

They are, I think it was a metaphorical comment. 😁

I spent a lot of time trying to understand the DPF and after a few years of ownership, the DPF has been the least of my problems. Suspension bushes, trim falling apart, the rear camera failing, oil leaks out of the intake, the EGR clogging up, front CVs, gearbox faults [I can go on] have consumed my time on this car.

Its a good car but when I compare it to my Toyota Hilux, which spends a lot of time off road here in outback Australia, my XC60 requires a lot of maintenance. In over 300,000km, the Hilux has only needed a front wheel bearing and regular oil changes. The XC60 is approaching 160,000kms of mixed city/hwy use.
