Yes, I've seen the two on Ebay and I would be prepared to buy one of them, but that I'm guessing that the manual for the 2011 car will be different, so if I do and "learn" a 2009 manual first ... ?
I have proposed a loan manual from my dealer, but I don't think it's going to happen.
It I were Volvo I would produce a "welcome pack" to be sent out to patient customers killing 10-12 weeks waiting for their vehicles.

WOW! I didnt think there was anyone more eager than me to get my new car. (er...wife's new car). but I stand corrected; my excitement level pales in comparison to someone looking to "study" the manual 3 months before getting their car delivered.

It's like waiting for a baby to be born though, isn't it.

Errr, can I ask.... what's a manual?? Is it important? I know my missus keeps banging on about instructions but I haven't got a clue what they are either?!

Still, it does seem wierd buying a car and then not having it on the drive...not being built keeps it clean though

Pete.

A manual is part of the scrap papers that you throw in the bin when you buy something, and then fish out again the first time you get frustrated and break it.

Jeffo, you are quite right. Back in 1996, I bought a new Landrover Discovery, and being a sad person I did as I always do, and sat down with a cup of tea to read the owners manual. It stated that after the ignition was switched off and the key removed, the electric windows would operate for a period of time, provided the doors were not opened. I tried this out and mine did not do this so I took it back to the dealer. Much head scratching and several phone calls later to the factory they came back to me to say that the instruction book was incorrect and that the window operation refered to the American Version and that it was not fitted on any UK car. The sad part is that of all the UK discoveries sold to that point, I was the only person ever to notice

My cars an automatic, so I'm guessing I won't get a manual.... Hehehehe
( sorry I'm easily amused...)

I do have a manual but have really studied it, I really hate it when you read a section and think it's really neat only to find out it's an optional extra ...

Default Lots of test drives, V70, Freelander 2.2 GS

Apologies for bringing this slightly back on track but having looked at the specs for the new D3 engine and comparing these with the Freelander 2.2 these seem favourable. Also given that the Freelander is a similar weight to the XC60 seemed like a good idea to test one.

I know that the gear ratios are different but I need to set my mind to rest that an engine with 400nm and 160 or so BHP could pull/push the weight of an XC 60. A Freelander was maybe on my list too, not any more.

This weekend I also tested a V70 2.0D as another comparison and was mightly impressed with this one too.

Don't forget that V70 2.0 engine is the old 136bhp version... the new one that you can order from April is 163bhp and very likely more economical too.... it's the one I was going to get before deciding (err...my wife deciding) that I really wanted an XC90!!

Agreed, in principal, but whether for good or for bad, car technology has increased significantly since Jeff's 1996 experience, and while his manual was that of a car, I'm fairly convinced that the manual for the XC60 going to be more like something for the starship enterprise! Anyone who's about to fork out £30,000 for a new car surely has a right to be curious to learn how to use BLIS, ACC, LDW, DAC, PCC, DAB, etc!
But in all seriousness, I genuinely do want to read what I can in advance, so if any of you guys out there with a 2010 user manual might be prepared to lend it to me for a couple of weeks ...?
