Windscreen: Water ingress on x70/80 P3 models 2007 on

Just discovered this issue on my car. Suspected it as I had a couple of clear streaks down the inside of slightly dirty windscreen.

In the rain driving home last night hand on top of steering wheel felt a drop of water land on it. Reached up and felt top of windscreen and headliner, couple of small drips.

So investigating what to do. Seal the sealer is one thing read here. Windscreen out and bonded back (risk of it breaking).

I wonder if anyone here has had a similar issue to me. I had mine replaced on the insurance a few weeks ago, and on the first chilly night after, the inside of the screen became completely condensated. Obviously last night in the UK was freezing or below, and I found the inside of the screen iced up this morning.

The first time it happened, I thought it might be because I'd left the cabin's air 'switch' manually set to 'let air in from outside the car', but it was on auto last night. Does anyone have any ideas as to why it's started happening?

My Dad has the same problem on his V70. When I went to start the car yesterday (its parked on the road), it was all iced up on the outside. The inside, although not frozen, was full of condensation and drips were landing on the dash (not ideal when there's fuses and all sorts around that area). We're going to get the windscreen replaced, or at a very minimum resealed. The car is now inside our garage out of the elements until this is done. Normally there's no space in the garage, so its lucky to be inside!

The climate control setting has always been set to auto on this particular car (not recirculate or let fresh air in). I don't think that has anything to do with your window being iced up on the inside. Its likely that your windscreen has slight gaps around it, which lets water in and then it froze up because it was so cold. I advise getting that checked because its only a matter of time before the windscreen starts letting more water in, which then soaks your dash/electrics.

Screen movement is SO obvious, sloshing is VERY irritating.

Got mine removed and resealed by a local specialist about 3 months ago - you may have seen my earlier post. Had I not been in a bit of a spot I might have pursued the issue with my local dealer, but I needed the car for a week away and the dealer couldn't even look at it for a couple of weeks let alone offer a fix.
If a windscreen has been leaking for quite some time I wonder if all the condensation inside could be due to the leak trickling down to the carpets? Might be worth checking.

I've had a leak from the windscreen on my 2008 V70 D5 Sport since I bought it 3.5 years ago. The thing is, it only seemed to leak if I parked with the nose facing downhill.

Well more fool me for leaving it!! Recently all my heater controls stopped working! After much Googling and investigation it turned out to be a faulty climate control unit. I took it to Volvo Diagnostics at Tilbury and they were superb. They had it all sorted within 3 hours and their charge was very reasonable. The guy said my unit had been damaged by water ingress, oops!

Back to the leak, I've read that in some cases Volvo UK has paid for the re-bonding, so I thought why not ask them. so I went onto their chat. This was their reply;

"I am very sorry to hear about the issues you have experienced with a leaking windscreen in your Volvo. Whilst we appreciate your concerns, that the bonding on the windscreen should not wear and last the lifetime of a car. However, failures can occur and Volvo like other car manufacturers cannot guarantee that the parts and components in our cars will last a lifetime.

Regrettably, as your Volvo is outside its manufacturer's warranty, we were unable to cover the cost of re-bonding on the windscreen of your Volvo and best if you contact your insurance company for support."

I'm not surprised, it's what I expected but I thought if you don't ask, you don't get! But at least we now know Volvo UK's official position.

By the way, does anyone know a decent windscreen company in the Preston, Lancashire area who can do the re-bonding? (And yes I know that there's a chance they might crack the screen but that's a risk I'll have to take.)

Volvo did re-bond screens outside of the warrant period as it is a safety issue and ought to have been a recall. However, recently they seem to have declared that they are no longer going to support this repair so the end product is the same as what they told you.

If you are tenacious you could still pursue them on the grounds that a faulty bonded windscreen could lead to fatalities in the event of a crash as the screen is structural part of the body and if not bonded weakens the body in the event of a collision or could enter the cabin and injure/kill the occupants. You could then point out that they would be held responsible for selling a dangerous vehicle and taking no steps to correct their faulty manufacture might incur liability for them. For a car company that sells its products on the back of safety claims, that would be a disaster for them.

just bought this car the seller told me it has water ingress causing all sorts of electrical faults. I have taken the seats out and carpets to find no water ingress, scanned it, full of fault codes, cleared codes to start again. comes up with no coms with transmission module, central control module and the DIM module. Just wondering where to start with it? faults it comes up with handbrake module, new one fitted, doesn't go above 3rd gear while driving, battery fully charged and on smart charger.
Any clues anyone cheers Paul.
