Okay, so i've downloaded vida and done some research, 61 is the same as 60 but with a deadlock function, ie, once locked, even if someone smashes the window in, the interior door handle still wont work.

Since this isn't really relevant to me, and the 61 version seems more expensive and harder to find, i've decided to go ahead and try the 60, can't see why it shouldn't work.

I would have thought all the cars have deadlocks as standard these days.

On mine, you can hear the deadlocks engaging with a clunk around 10 seconds after locking with the fob.

I don't know what difference it would make fitting a lock without it. Might it stop the alarm from setting or something?

As far as i can tell, it seems that many countries, at least for these volvos, don't use the deadlock variant, which is why they seem to be much harder to find brand new, and if you do, they are usually much more expensive.

The deadlock type locks have an extra pin on the connector, i assume this is so the car can send a voltage down and engage the DL. So no actual signal is sent or received (Just a guess), so the car can't actually detect them, just automatically sends a voltage, and then unlocking rh car via the keyfob disables deadlock as a result of the standard lock unlocking, i'm sure there are people here smarter than me on this, just trying to get this info down so anyone in the future wanting to replace faulty locks has more knowledge.

I also had a good read through VIDA to check things and it seems that the car doesn't care what lock you install, it won't know essentially.

I've attached an image, perhaps im not reading it right?

Either way it works fine now, I'm sure I could have fitted the part myself if I had time, you can either order it from a Volvo dealer or on the Skandix website I think. I did try opening up the old part, the spring looked ok so assume it was the motor however I wouldn't know which motor to order as I think the unit was different to the one on that video I posted previously?
I was wondering, how easy was it to open up your lock motor, and how many motors were inside it? 2?

Do you happen to still have that lock?

Appreciate the reply if you can, if it's possible to simply replace the motors inside, that might actually be better than a new part from volvo themselves.

Thanks

I also have the failed door lock issue on my 2011 S60. I have also received a recall notice for the seatbelt fastener. I have emailed my local dealer to ask about the repairs and queried why the door lock actuators have been recalled in the US but not locally. This is poor form from Volvo and in Ireland you will fail an annual car inspection if you cannot open the door from the outside, i.e. if the actuator fails in the closed position.

Volvo UK didn't offer me any goodwill whatsoever, I ended up replacing the lock myself, not too hard if you are competent and have the torx screwdrivers and panel trim tools.

Volvo quoted me £550 to diagnose and then replace the faulty motor with a new one. Whereas I picked up a brand new genuine Volvo lock for £180ish and about 2 hours to swap it out.

Hi Jim. I'm about to order some parts as i'm getting intermittent locking with my V60 here. My original part is 31301740, which is now superseded by 31349861, this is the UK standard deadlock version. Did you have any issues when you installed the non-deadlock 31349860? They are certainly much easier to get hold of.

Also did you attempt to open up the old unit to see if you could get to the motors?

Thank you.
