D5 Long cranking after period of no use
Hi, does anyone have the starting parameters for the D5?
When the car is not used for long periods i.e 2 weeks + it takes some time to fire up. Even after 2-3 days it takes a little longer than normal. It seems as though i'm loosing fuel pressure over time. I have done leakback tests etc and all good. I have vida so just need to load the monitoring sensors and check to see if pressure cranking speed etc are within spec. Can't find what they should be. Any help with what to load up and look for would be appreciated. |

Crank speed the next thing to eliminate. From memory ( not great ) I think you need 150rpm minimum and might expect to see 190 with a good battery and starter.
How long is long. Mine will fire after two or three compressions, five or six if the battery has run down a bit. How old is the battery, what is it's voltage before cranking and have you considered the earth strap back from the block? Mine parted at the lower lug about two years back. |

OP, this thread is similar to another thread you started.
Probably best to keep to one thread so it's easier for you to update on exactly what you have done so far, easier for us to follow and save people repeating what they've helpfully mentioned previously.

Thanks all, new battery fitted. Will check strap this weekend.
Don't think that's the issue though. As it starts fine if it has ran in last 24hrs. It's been the same in the 3 years i have owned it, no biggie just like things running perfectly. I have no error codes either. |

Which D5? Eu3 or Eu4?
If I were to guess, it does sound like it could be a fuel pressure issue. If possible, the next time it's been stood for a long period and you know it will be reluctant to start, you could try turning the engine over then stopping before it starts, then try the same again. If it then starts after that, the engine is still cold, not been started for the long period but by turning the engine over, the fuel rail pressure and in-tank pump will have been run so the fuel system should be primed, that could indicate the fuel system to have an issue but it could also potentially point to glow plugs if the temperature is very low... Bit difficult to guess further without any codes or other information like fuel rail pressures.

Im following this as i have the same issue, i can rectify mine by tickling the gas prior and during, fires on the 1st or 2nd turn, otherwise it can take a lot longer with no gas

Euro 3
Right, just went out and started it after standing for a week. I pressed the accelerator pedal and it started on 1st 2nd turn. Quicker than ever. What does this indicate? I'm guessing fuel return issue. Perhaps pipe or valve Last edited by richieski; Jan 13th, 2020 at 21:19. |
