1990 744 GL...testing the water
Hi all,
After much consideration, I'm tentatively considering selling my beloved 1990 744. I have considered dropping a B230 into it for towing duty but am now thinking I might be better off changing it for a turbocharged 740/760/940 for load lugging. It has been totally recommissioned by myself in the last two years and has passed its last two MOTs with no advisories. A very much loved and well cared for car. It's silver, has a few dings etc commensurate with a car approaching it's 30th birthday, and the paint has some sun damage...no lacquer peel but a little crazing here and there. I have some glazing polish which I plan to use on it prior to sale which should help greatly with this. It has a B200F and M47. Runs like clockwork and I would (and do!) trust it to get me anywhere. It's had fresh oil and filter every 3000 miles whilst I've owned it, plus a new clutch, coil, distributor, ignition amplifier, all sensors, most hoses, radiator, discs, pads, full cat-back exhaust, lambda sensor, HT leads, underbody fuel pump, fuel filter, injectors (updated spec quad-pintle grey Bosch units), plus a brand new top spec Exide battery fitted three weeks ago. I have a new in-tank pump and entire insert ready to be fitted which will come with the car for such times as it needs a replacement. It's a really lovely drive, and has been an absolute joy to own and bring back to its former glory. It sits on immaculate Dracos which I sourced at great expense, were refurbished for me by Silver Wheels in Ferndown last year and look superb. Negatives are that the headlining needs replacing and it has the usual screwy clocks-the Speedo/Odo stopped working this Summer so I have relied on the Speedo on my GPS since then. I've spent a great deal on the car and have put hundreds of hours of work into it, but I am realistic about its value. I'm looking for cash offers or a trade for a car with a B230 or similar and a towbar. Let me know if it's of interest and I will try to upload pics! Best Phil

I had something in the £850 region in mind. I've spent a great deal on it in the last couple of years and it's a very sound, mechanically excellent car. I forgot to mention in my last post that it was undersealed from new so is in superb shape underneath too.

I reckon that’s worth more than £850!
I would gladly swap it with my 940 Turbo but it just wouldn’t work for me right now. I’ll have a think though.
