Volvo S60 T5 2001 (MOT Failure) - Advice?
Greetings Friends
After 3 years of ownership the S60 has thrown a bit of a curveball on its last MOT and I'm at an indecision of what to do. The car itself is a 2001 S60 T5 (250bhp), metallic blue, with a whole host of features - in-armrest phone, TV (analog so doesn't display a signal), all electric front seats, spaceball gearstick, factory Sat Nav, 4CD changer SC901 with amplifiers, cruise control, electric sunroof..... It has a large service history, of which I've added to it in the last 3 years; - New backbox exhaust - New front top mounts, springs and control arms - New disks and pads on front (<100 miles) - Added a bluetooth radio adapter - Oil changes every 8-10k Engine runs smooth, no knocks, rattles or bangs - drives beautiful. Rides superb. It's MOT looks like this, done a few days back. I was quite surprised at the scale of it, considering how well it drives about, but its not insurmountable; Repair immediately (major defects): Nearside Front Brake hose excessively deteriorated (1.1.12 (b) (ii)) Nearside Rear Coil spring fractured or broken (5.3.1 (b) (i)) Offside Rear Coil spring fractured or broken (5.3.1 (b) (i)) Nearside Rear Service brake excessively fluctuating (1.2.1 (e)) Repair as soon as possible (minor defects): Nearside Front Headlamp lens slightly defective (4.1.1 (b) (i)) Offside Front Headlamp lens slightly defective (4.1.1 (b) (i)) Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories): Rear Registration plate deteriorated but not likely to be misread (0.1 (b)) Outer sill covers fitted obscuring prescribed areas Oil leak, but not excessive slight oil leak from engine (8.4.1 (a) (i)) Nearside Rear Brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (1.1.14 (a) (ii)) Offside Rear Brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (1.1.14 (a) (ii)) Play in steering rack inner joint(s) () Offside Front Brake hose slightly deteriorated (1.1.12 (b) (ii)) Nearside Front Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e)) Offside Front Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e)) Offside Rear Service brake fluctuating, but not excessively (1.2.1 (e)) Towball/hitch not fitted at time of test () I have all parts required to make it pass (rear springs, rear brakes/pads/shoes, front hoses, litre of dot 4) and all the tools. Its a great car and I love driving it around. Costs a bit to keep it moving (I have always used VPower in it) but its such a joy to drive. I'm halfway between spending a Saturday doing the work, or just letting it go for parts/spares and repair. Just bought a van, so this is a bonus vehicle now. Wouldn't mind anyone's thoughts who's been in a similar situation.

Get it fixed and stick 12 months on it. You've lavished a fair bit of time and effort on it already, be a shame to break it

As you already have the parts needed to gain a pass I'd fix it,then if you decide to sell it's as a "going concern"and saves any hassle from breaking for parts-removing them/getting paid for them and shipping them out-or if you keep it the other bits can be sorted[or not]as you go along. The bit in advisories about sill covers is a fairly common one which covers the tester in case it's later found that the sills are rotten, they do the same with cars that have undertrays fitted.
