It will be located in a central part of the vehicle to increase it's survivability in case of a crash.

If the VCM contains the VoC subsystem, then it is a critical life-saver device, and it needs to survive as tough a crash as possible.

Actually, that may not be unreaonable given the time it'll take to access the module, replace the batteries, put it back together and test the system.

Hi Lexman I’ve found the VCM unit it was not hard at all, but at the time I thought it did not contain the battery, however I’ll go and have a look later on, if I do manage to get another battery from the dealership do you know if the car needs to be reset to show it’s had a new battery in

I don't know for sure but it's likely that the error code will have to be cleared by the dealer.

Like I said, be careful with the VCM. I've had two replacement units fitted, both under warranty, but the dealer told me the cost. Also, the VCM has undergone at least one major revision so check that the battery config in your unit is still the same arrangement as shown.

Hi there mate. Just browsing through some threads and you seem to know your stuff. Must people on here just recommend going to the dealership which wont be possible in my case as I’m not unde warranty.

My car has been involved in a collision and now won’t start. There is power to the dash, windows seats etc. But no crank or any reaction when pushing start.

Do you have any tips as to were o should start looking? I checked the battery and the pyrotec fuse looks to be ok. Anything you could reccomend?

The batteries in the VCM backup cell are not standard lithium Ion, they are made by Tadrian and are very unusual in the fact they are 8v not the 7.2v provided by standard lithium cells

The replacement battery is £113 and it is located in the VCM which is behind the right hand side rear trim about half way down the rear side window, it’s a bit of a mission to get to but diy replaceable
