Default V70 D5 Coolant Leak? - Photo

Hi everyone

2004 V70 D5, 241k miles

My V70 has recently started losing coolant. I am having to top it off every few weeks. Not a dramatic loss, but I would like to get to the bottom of where it's coming from.

Poking around the engine bay, I noticed an area of damp around the component in the attached photo. The component is positioned to the left of the vehicle right at the back of the engine bay. It sits on top of the rigid air intake pipe that leads from the air filter housing to the turbo, right before the pipe enters the turbo.

Can anyone tell me what this component is please? Is a fluid leak here likely to be coolant or engine oil?

I am hoping it's coolant, because if so that is likely to be the source of the leak.

Thanks in advance folks.

That's the crankcase breather pipe on the ptc valve, so what you're seeing there is oil vapour. Coolant leaks can be a bit tricky to track down, so the best way to find them is with a coolant system pressure tester.

Much obliged. I knew I wasn't lucky enough to have found the source of the coolant leak that easily! I will keep looking for the leak.

So far as the oil vapour forming around the PTC valve is concerned, can I just try tightening the jubilee clip to stop it?

I'm interested. What's a jubilee clip?

A metal worm drive hose clamp that holds a soft hose onto a rigid circular pipe.
