Arrow Volvo Dealership - Software upgrade

All,

I have approached Sorckport Volvo to put in my 08 MY Volvo D5 XC90 AWD.

Because I have decided that I'm keeping it for the long term I wanted to get a software upgrade on all systems, as advised on these forums, to ensure that the car was as up-to-date as possible.

Volvo has advised me the cost is £99 for them to do this which is fine.

The problem I have is they have also said "Plus the cost of any software required....

This is an open-ended cost which I cannot accept - any suggestions?

Get it serviced by the dealer ... that way through the Volvo Service Promise all the common modules will get the software updated F.O.C. and you will get 12 months pan European breakdown and recovery as well.

Well worth thinking about.

couldn't they be bothered to look up the "TOTAL SOFTWARE package price ?

shouldn't be over £50 + the 18 mins labour cost .+ VAT

But do what Truckbus suggests above . not ALL the modules will be updated but the most important ones will..

for a 13 year old car, as long as it was running ok, I wouldn't bother, and would seriously doubt any updates of significance (presuming it would have had updates in its early life).

volvo are continuously updating their software , for fixes when some obscure fault happens 10 years since production started for example . They did for the auto gearbox too and half way through production completely altered the way the gearbox worked , and added wear compensation and new test routines etc as late as 2013 . there are about 30 + modules on even the most simple models of 20 years ago .

No they couldn't - I think they aren't interested in a 12-year-old car tbh - extremely disappointing.

Before you start, if you have VIDA, dump all the current software versions and compare to other vehicles. Then you have a good basis to understand what might be upgradable.

I have a XC90 D5 AWD R-Design, built in late 2008 as a MY2009. I have VIDA and can share all my software versions of my car, which has been serviced at the same dealer ever since it was born, and has always had all the software updates applied (I believe), especially as last time they overwrite my Heiko tuning and had to reinstate it at their cost

You do need VIDA to read all the fitted software part numbers and version numbers.

They wouldn't be liable in normal circumstances . I guess you told someone and they didn't pass the message on !
